WINNER OF EAST OF ENGLAND FARM BUSINESS AWARDS 2011
Having been praised by expert judges as having a first class farming business, Trumpington Farm Company at Cambridge was named the 2011 East of England Agricultural Society’s supreme champion in their Farm Business Awards.
The farm, which is managed by Andrew Crossley, won the large farms class for farms from 2301-10,000 acres before being placed as supreme champion.
Championship judges Nick Padwick and Andrew Maddever said Mr Crossley demonstrated excellence on every level and was committed to farming in a sustainable and profitable manner. “Andrew’s commitment to ensuring no stone is left unturned in the pursuit of best practive and proactive land and environment management is a credit to him and is reflected in the excellent work undertaken by his team at Trumpington Farms.”
Trumpington Farms is an arable unit extended to some 4430 acres of land with crops grown including wheat, barley, OSR, peas, beans and sugar beet, with a small area of permanent pasture is also maintained, alongside some woodland.
Speaking at the Awards ceremony, held today at the East of England Show,Andrew said the win was recognition of the hard work and adaptability of the team of five he worked with on the farm. “It’s great to build on the success of last year when we were second in our class and winning the overall award shows that perseverance pays off.
“I’m also delighted to see strong entries in the other classes and would encourage farmers of whatever scale to enter the awards and have a go. It’s great to be recognised for doing a good job and everyone should be able to gain something from entering.”
Trumpington Farm Company was runner up in 2010 and won Countryside Management
in the same year.
Commenting on the standard of entries this year, East of England’s Kerry Buttriss said: “Once again we’ve had an incredible standard of entries in all the classes and it’s great to see so many farmers so proud of what they and their staff are achieving. Farming is at last being recognised as the modern, progressive industry it is and the East of England Farm Business Awards are an excellent way of showcasing the best farmers in the region.”
