Farming

Trumpington Farm Company operates to the south and west of Cambridge and north to Lolworth. The operation farms Pemberton family owned land around Trumpington and Haslingfield and has tenancies with three colleges. Whole farm contracting is carried out for a number of land owners, including most arable operations for Cambridge University Farms and one off operations for neighbours.

The business has grown to some 1950 hectares since its creation in 1957 and has diversified away from farming only to amenity activities such as angling and venue hire.

Staff

The team is split between full-time farming and part-time amenity and estate operations, depending on seasonal workload. Extra staff are employed at harvest from the estate and specifically recruited as required. Training is provided annually, whether it is statutory or for personal development.

Machinery

Machinery is purchased to best suit the operation with a bias towards high output, reliability and the use of the latest technology to improve efficiency and quality of operation. This has lead to a fleet that is diverse in manufacturer, but best matched to need. Mainline powered machinery is from Case, John Deere, Claas, JCB and Sands, whilst  equipment from Simba, Vaderstadt, Cousins and Dowdeswell dominates cultivation and crop establishment.

Application of technology such as GPS auto tracking, performance monitoring by satellite linked telemetry, the ability to variable rate apply seed and fertilizer, plus harvester guidance by laser pilot, all contribute to our efficiency.

Environment and Assurance

The environment we work in and customer confidence in the food we produce is very important. As a result, we are full members of ACCS, the Voluntary Initiative for Pesticides, FWAG and every farm has ELS scheme and/or CSS, soon to be incorporated into an extensive HLS scheme. All crops grown are farm assured whether they be wheat, oilseed, peas, beans or sugar beet.
